Where the Customer is the Critic
The Internet has provided consumers with an evolved approach towards shopping. You no longer have to rely entirely on the opinions of family and friends when choosing the right product. Shoe Critic provides a growing database of customer experiences, allowing people to rate and review different brands of shoes based on three important characteristics. These reviews are then moderated for quality, and immediately shared with the public.
What we're working on
Shoe Critic is currently developing a registration system where consumers can register to earn points for submitting detailed, quality reviews on the shoes they have worn. Prizes will be given out monthly to those users who earned the most points.

Review: The sole of my sandal disintegrated as if it were made from flour and water paste.

Model: Style# 2412 Gortex 8"
Reviewer: Dave

Review: I can't say enough about my red wings. I have the 8" insulated Gortex boots which is one of the only styles still made in USA. The boots stand up to working knee deep in mud and through northern winters. I have terrible feet and always had to wear perscription orthotics before I got a pair of red wings. The insoles that were provided with the boots are superior to any other boots. The only thing that would make me switch boots is if they started making the style I wear in China. I want to support the local economy and don't agree that the quality would remained the same.

Review: In March,2010 I purchased a pair of Avia sneakers with the sole like the Sketchers sneaker. I only wore them for walking once a day. The soles cracked right in front of the heal and the right one broke all the way through. The top part of the sneaker is still in very good condition but I can't walk in them with the sole broke all the way through. I paid $79.99 for them and I feel they should have lasted longer.

Review: I have to say that Josef Seibel Shoes Canada finally did give us a partial credit--half price off on a replacement for the defective sandals mentioned above. The fact that we had to haggle with the importer ourselves is outrageous. The store, Island Shoe Place in Victoria, should have given us a credit and dealt with the importer.

Model: Irish Setters
Reviewer: Jeff Mouser
Date Submitted: June 7, 2011
Review: I'm an Inspector so I don't have to abuse my boots. That being said, during my life I have spent thousands on Red Wing boots with very few complaints. Even though I alternate boots every day, the soles on the latest pair of Irish Setters I purchased began to de-laminate after about 6 weeks of walking on flat, dry ground. I took the m back to Boot World where I was told that they would not replace the boots but instead would have them repaired. So much for the Warranty. I didn't want the boots repaired, nor did I want a new pair. I wanted a refund, which I did not get. These boots are now made in China and had I known that at the time, I would not have purchased them, and, for sure, I will never purchase another pair. Zamberlan makes a heck of a good boot. It's comfortable right out of the box and they last forever. That's where I'm going. They're expensive but they are the best boots I have ever owned. Bye-Bye Red Wing.

Reviewer: Elizabeth
Date Submitted: June 4, 2011
Review: I have 3 pairs of Geox shoes. The runners have a very thin sole and I have been wearing them for over 2 years now rain or shine and have no issues. Back when I was wearing cheap shoes my feet stank and it was down right embarrassing. These shoes are the only shoes I would ever consider buying.

Review: I guess after 7-8 years of almost daily summer wear, my favorite Born sandals have paid their dues. These were my go-to sandals for summer - office, play, traveling, they were there. Alas, the sole of one sandal cracked when I caught the side of it on a indoor/outdoor mat at work. Despite searching the Born web site I can't find a similar style. I called customer service, who informed me the style was last manufactured in 2002 and they don't offer replacement soles (or any parts). I am scouring eBay to see if I can find a similar sandal cheap enough to use it's sole on my sandal.

Review: I love my Birks but i have a narrow foot so they make my feet look big. Also, the strap stretches and needs to have mor holes put in them. But, I love my Birks as they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.

Review: The store where we bought the defective Josef Seibel shoes gave us a credit but refused to give a credit for a pair of sandals that had exactly the same defect. We contacted Josef Seibel Canada whose director promised us half off on a replacement but never delivered it. He does not return calls. We have complained to Josef Seibel's head office in Germany

Review: Well, I loved them until they started squeaking! I have had the shoes for about 6months and all of a sudden one day, they just started making squeaking noises everytime I walked. I took them to a shoe repair shop where I was told that it's a manufacturers defect and it could not be fixed. So now, I have the great shows that I can't wear!

Review: The elastic holding the top strap gets loose, & therefore the shoe becomes too big. This is very disappointing; I own 6 pairs, & it's happened to all of them. I have a small foot, size 6; there's no reason for the elastic to stretch so much.

Review: I used to be a complete evangelist for Geox shoes. Was always telling all my mates that they 'MUST' try them! Now, I'm not so sure. 3 pairs out of 6 that I have bought over the years, have started to take in water from the sole. I'ts not coming in from the top of the shoe, as once it stops raining, and I go outside, I can feel a damp/wet spot develop in the ball of the foot area, where the membrane is situated, and the perforations are on the sole. The membrane is SUPPOSED to be one way. The shoes function okay for the first 6-18 months or so, but then the membrane seems to fail. I can only speculate that when fine sharp sand or fine gravel enters the perforations on the sole, they may be piercing the membrane somehow, as in Calgary a lot of sand and fine grit is used in the winter on the roads, and can see fine gravel in the perforations. However, surely, a shoe that cannot be used to walk where there may be a bit of gravel around kinda defeats the object? Perhaps some sort a layer of fine chainmail mesh to stop gravel piercing the membrane is in order? At the price one can pay for Geox, ($120-$280 canadian dollars) they ARENT cheap!

Review: I bought a pair of Stonefly ankle boots in Italy seven years ago. They were an amazing shade of dark red leather and super comfortable. I didn't wear them too often the first years I had them (several years not at all), but pulled them out this season. However, just today, in the middle of the afternoon, I looked down to discover sudden giant cracks in the soles - the heels have spontaneously begun to crumble, the soles have split in two at the instep - it's as if a silent time bomb went off causing complete disintegration. I'm not sure I can make it home before they completely fall apart. It's truly bizarre - and a shame because I'd hoped to keep them for many more years.
