Nina's sexy, glamorous shoes have been designed in New York since 1953. Brothers and co-founders Mike and Stanley Silverstein, Cuban emigrants, set up shop in a small loft on Prince Street and named the company after Stanley's first-born daughter. The first shoe was a fashion clog - a platform sandal with a wood stiletto-like heel that was a reinterpretation of the clogs their father had made in Cuba. By 1960, Nina's fashion clogs were on the feet of stylish fashionitas everywhere, including the Miss Universe contestants!
Over the decades, Nina expanded their brand to include dress shoes, boots, flats, ballerina shoes, funky and edgy styles and traditional and understated numbers. Now, Nina Footwear Corp. remains one of the most widely-known and recognized footwear brands in the U.S. Nina enjoys its place as the number one shoe resource for accessible (meaning not expensive!) luxury and everyday glamor. Nine still carries on its proud tradition of being designed in New York, too - in the middle of a world of fashion.
Nina shoes are featured regularly in top fashion magazines and are spotted frequently on the red carpet. Nina also is the parent company for Delman, Nina Dolls and Nina Kids. Nina also is the Official Footwear Sponsor of the Miss Universe Competition.
Some of the hottest spots to catch Nina shoes have been on YouTube, where Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart "got glam" for the Young Hollywood Awards; on the NBC Today Show as one of Essence Magazine's picks for holiday party fashion in December 2008; and, on Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela, when she wore Nina Gaticus on July 13, 2008, the evening she was crowned Miss Universe 2008 before nearly a billion viewers in 180 countries.
